About Me

Who the heck am I?

Hi my name is Chris and in 2020 I will be 32 years old. I'm an engineer for a living which certainly is an exciting career, besides diving I love cycling and videography.

I've been pretty lucky in my initial diving education because it took place in the stunningly beautiful and incredibly warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico in Florida using Scuba West as the dive centre. I highly recommend them - Paul Heinerth still frequents the shop and teaches cave diving. I learned to dive in 2006 when I completed the PADI Open Water (OW) course with his instructor Nikol White.

Over the next few years I worked my way up the PADI ladder, which, most memorably introduced me to cave diving in Manatee Springs (you can read about my cavern diving course here), Florida in 2008.

By 2009 I had learned about GUE and the DIR diving system and I took a GUE Fundamentals course held at Vobster Quay ran by Clare Gledhill with John Grogan in support (you can read about that course here).

In 2010 I passed the IANTD Advanced Recreational Trimix course ran by Howard Payne with Clare Pooley providing support (you can read that course report here). Between the GUE Fundamentals course and the IANTD ART course they made me infinitely better divers.

In 2013-15 I've been to Malta several times diving, Malta is a fantastic diving destination which I strongly reommend!

Sweden was also an interesting dive destination. It is primarily reef-type diving as there were no wrecks in the south where I was.

Over the years I've been diving in various places: Florida, Scotland, Sweden, South-England, Malta.

The wishlist currently stands at:
  • Norway
  • Croatia
  • Bikini-Atoll

I made this blog because I've always enjoyed reading up about others' diving antics so thought that others could benefit from this too. Hopefully it is both funny and useful!
